The 54 Days Rosary Novena

As you may be aware Fr Brian O’Shea leaves Grays and retires as a parish priest at the end of August 2020. Over the years Fr Brian has performed many good works in Grays including the re-introduction of both the annual Forty hours devotion and the May devotions, the transforming of the main hall into Our Lady’s Undercroft, the handing out of both the 2000 miraculous medals and the 1600 missionary rosaries to all parishioners. Now, Fr Brian has one final good work to do for the parish before he leaves and he needs your help to do this: The 54 Days Rosary Novena.

Fr Brian would like to invite all parishioners to participate in this novena from the safety of their own homes.

The Rosary Book is leaning against the statue of Our Lady of Walsingham in front of the altar

The 54 day Rosary Novena (probably one of the most powerful novenas) is a novena prayer made up of 6 consecutive nine day novenas. Please see an Explanation of the Novena. Please see the format to use in The Most Holy Rosary attachment. You will also find a ‘tick the days off’ document attached, which will be useful.

Fr Brian proposes that we start the Novena on Tuesday 23rd June Praying In Petition for the following Intentions – you can still join and send your intentions for The Rosary Book after 23rd June :

  • Our Lady’s intentions
  • An End to COVID-19
  • Intentions in the Rosary Book of Intentions (please see attached JPEG)

On 20th July (Day 28) the Novena changes from Praying In Petition to Praying In Thanksgiving. Saturday 15th August (Day 54) is the last day of the Novena. And on Sunday 16th August  – Act of Consecration to Jesus Through Mary.

If you would like to make known that you wish to participate and have your name written into the Rosary Book with your intentions please contact Nick by email addressed to: N.Chinnon@sky.com If you are unable to print off any of the attachments please contact him for a hard copy.

This is Fr Brian’s last project and he invites you all to take part

Bishop Alan shared the following prayer:

Cardinal Hollerich SJ and Cardinal Bagnasco, Presidents of COMECE and CCEE respectively, have published a prayer for this time of infection with the COVID-19 virus for use in our communities across the continent of Europe.

God our Father, Creator of the world, almighty and merciful, out of love for us

You sent your Son into the world as the doctor of our souls and our bodies,

look upon your children who, in this difficult time of confusion and dismay in many regions of Europe and the world, turn to you seeking strength, salvation and relief,

deliver us from illness and fear, heal our sick, comfort their families, give wisdom to our rulers,

energy and reward to our doctors, nurses and volunteers, eternal life to the dead. Do not abandon us in the moment of trial but deliver us from all evil.

We ask this of Thee, who with the Son and the Holy Spirit, live and reign for ever and ever.  Amen.

Mary, mother of health and hope, pray for us!
