Legion of Mary

Our Lady is inviting you to join the Legion of Mary

Christ the King Chingford

The Legion of Mary is a lay Catholic organisation. Its members serve the Church on a voluntary basis in almost every country across the world. Our group is within Our Lady Mother of Divine Grace Praesidium.

We meet every week after the 9:00am Sunday Mass at Christ the King, in the Church Hall, 455 Chingford Road E4 7PE. Our meetings last for less than one hour. If you faithfully practice your faith, and are interested, please drop into one of our meetings as a visitor, where we will warmly welcome you. If you would prefer to talk to someone first, please call Pauline on 07762 278 430.

In addition to attending a weekly meeting, we commit to offering two hours of our time each week to make visits within the parish. Our work is always conducted in pairs, at a time convenient to both of you. You will have the opportunity to go out on some visits with a member before making any commitment to join.

Our work is also a great help to Fr David and is personally rewarding. We visit the sick, housebound and bereaved. We maintain contact with those who are unable to attend church regularly. We endeavour to keep them up-to-date with the family life of the parish by leaving them a copy of the parish newsletter.

If you feel unable to take part in being an Active Member of the Legion of Mary, we would still value your membership as an Auxiliary Member. This would involve praying the Rosary and other prayers from the Legion of Mary leaflet, every day. Prayers from Auxiliary Members, provide the graces for Active Members to go about their work and, therefore make a significant contribution to what we do.

The Magnificat

“My soul glorifies the Lord,
My spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour.
He looks on his servant in her lowliness;
henceforth all ages will call me blessed.
The Almighty works marvels for me.
Holy is his name!
His mercy is from age to age,
on those who fear him.
He puts forth his arm in strength
and scatters the proud-hearted.
He casts the mighty from their thrones
and raises the lowly.
He fills the starving with good things,
sends the rich away empty.
He protects Israel, his servant,
Remembering his mercy,
the mercy promised to our fathers,
to Abraham and his sons forever.
